Community Service at the Monadnock Humane Society

Our SpiralScouts group spent some time yesterday in Keene at the HS. We brought donations and had a tour. We got to meet some incredible animals all looking for a home. We found out that they have been innundated lately. Due to the economy and many people loosing their homes...they are also having to give up their pets. Cats and kittens seem to be in abundance. June and July are adopt a cat month...if you were thinking of adding a cat to your family...now is the perfect time.

This facility is amazing! Where you walk in, there are rooms with dogs and half doors, so these happy beings greet you and you can pat them. The cats have catillion rooms. Small rooms set up with cat beds/bunkbeds, and couches etc...you can go in and hang out with cats as long as you want. There were 4 rooms like this. Definitely a hit with Xander.

After our visit to the HS we headed to Wheelock park to picnic and play for a couple of hours.

On the way home we saw a sign for the Gilsum Rock Shop, so we made a detour. We had a blast. 2 long rows of rock vendor. Xander and Zoe eached picked out a stone. Zoe's was mined in Rumford ME, where my parents were from. I chatted with the man for a bit about it. He bought a 40 acre mine up there. Very cool.
Before heading home, we had another picnic in the swap field. Got two pooped kids in the car and had a quiet rainy ride home as they slept.
